I planted the seed... - 1 Corinthians 3:6
When a seed is planted, hope is just beginning.
Some seeds are planted quietly—in the soil of loss, uncertainty, and courage. That is where the story of the Ayala family begins.
Family Life Missions first met the Ayala family through our partnership with the local church, Nueva Jerusalén in Catacamas. Through this church, the family became part of our Family Preservation Program and received training in child protection, parental care, and family well-being. What began as learning soon became something deeper: a new beginning.
Maresma Ayala is a mother of remarkable resilience. At 41, she supports her household by working at a small convenience store, earning about $150 a month. Her sons contribute what they can—Randy paints houses, José works as a construction assistant—but life has not been gentle with this family.
On July 22, 2025, their home was destroyed by fire. When firefighters put out the flames, water cracked the adobe walls. Then, after seven days of relentless rain, the house collapsed completely.
In a single season, everything they had was gone.
Yet even in the rubble, seeds of hope were being planted.
With determination, community solidarity, and limited government support, Maresma secured materials to rebuild. Today, their new home—three bedrooms, a combined living room and kitchen, and a small porch—stands 50% complete, reaching roof level. But construction has stalled. The need is still great.
This year has carried heavy emotional weight. Maresma is a survivor of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse from former partners. In July, her brother died instantly after falling from a bridge while riding his bicycle to work. Her youngest son, David (11), is recovering from a spinal injury after a fall and must sleep wearing a neck brace. Of all her children, only David is still in school.
And still—she presses on.
This is where you come in.
Through Building Dreams, a part of our Family Preservation Program, we do more than rebuild houses—we help restore lives.
This program is inspired by Isaiah 58:12:
And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
the restorer of streets to dwell in.
Together with the Nueva Jerusalén church, which is providing roofing, plastering, finishing materials, and labor, the Ayala family is asking for help to complete what has been started.
When you give, you help:
- Lay concrete floors
- Install doors and electricity
- Provide safety, dignity, and stability
- Restore what was lost and plant what can grow
This is the Plant stage of transformation.
A donor’s gift is where hope is just beginning.
It is the seed placed into the soil—faithfully, intentionally—trusting that God will bring growth.
When you give, you are not only raising walls.
You are planting dignity.
You are planting safety.
You are planting the possibility of a different future.
And in time, God will bring the increase.
