Born in 1999

Kevin is growing quickly. He has a competitive streak that can sometimes manifest itself as stubbornness. He is at the age where he loves to take short cuts – he is often sent back into the house to study a little bit longer when all he wants to do is ride his bicycle. His leg is doing well, and he never lets it slow him down.

Bio

When Kevin was first born, his mother dropped him.  Shortly after her mistake, his mother left him in the weeds to die. A woman found him and tried to raise him along with her own three children. Her husband abandoned her and she was forced to find a job. She felt she could not give Kevin the attention and love he needed. She sought help from Por Los Niños.

When Kevin joined us his pelvic bone and hips were completely misformed. He had a variety of parasites, severe malnutrition and was anemic. After treatment and 5 surgeries, Kevin seems completely normal except for his left leg.

Due to damage to the growth plates and bones during a very vulnerable time, Kevin's leg cannot grow like the rest of his body. However, many generous people and organizations have taken part in helping Kevin live as full and mobile a life as possible.

After trips to the Scottish Rites Hospital in Texas, and countless doctors visits, Kevin has a prosthesis and a whole battalion of doctors that care about him.

He never lets his disability get in the way, and can be found any day of the week riding bikes or playing soccer along with all the other Por Los Niños kids.
