Born in 1992 Cristofer is a smart and helpful young man. He is a great athlete, makes good grades and enjoys life. He attends the National Agriculture University across the street from the Por Los Niños village. BioCristofer and his sister Alma lived a life of poverty and neglect. His mother was abandoned by Cristofer's father. They were homeless, and left begging for food and money on the streets of Catacamas. Desperate to take care of her children, Cristofer's mother left her children in the care of a thirteen year old cousin for much of the day while she tried to secure enough food for them to eat each day. They lived for a while with their aging grandfather who farmed for very little money up in a mountain village. Cristofer and Alma received little care while spending the day alone in the house. Cristofer and Alma came to Por Los Niños in 1992 out of their desperate situation. Cristofer was 24 months old but not growing properly. He was only the size of a 10 month old, and unable to walk or talk. He suffered from malnutrition, severe weight loss, parasites, scabies and developmental delays. Today Cristofer is a bright young man and an accomplished soccer player. He excels in school, is hard working and always willing to help. Cristofer's biggest goal right now is to learn English, which he loves to practice whenever work teams come to visit. |
